This course is available to those 11 years and older. The DNR Firearms Certification is required for anyone born after December 31, 1979. The firearm safety class consists of 4 days with 3 hours of classroom and field experience per day in the safe handling of firearms and hunter responsibility. The field experience allow students to learn and demonstrate commonly accepted principles of safety in hunting and the handling of firearms, including live fire on a rifle range. Upon successful completion of this course, students receive a TEMPORARY certificate. This certificate will allow the bearer to purchase a hunting license in Minnesota and other states where certification is required. This course is held twice a year in April/May and in August/September.
To receive certification for this course, all four days must be attended with no exceptions.
